Days of Importance in June

National Indigenous Peoples Day: June 21st, 2026

National Indigenous Peoples Day is celebrated each year on June 21 to recognize and honour the rich cultures, traditions, languages, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples across Canada. The day is an opportunity for individuals, families, and communities to come together to learn, reflect, and celebrate Indigenous histories, resilience, and diverse ways of knowing. June 21 was chosen because it holds cultural and spiritual significance for many Indigenous communities and coincides with the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. National Indigenous Peoples Day also encourages meaningful conversations about reconciliation, respect, and building stronger relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.

International Pride Day: June 28th, 2026

International Pride Day, celebrated on June 28, is a day to recognize and celebrate the diversity, resilience, and contributions of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community around the world. The day commemorates the Stonewall Uprising of 1969 in New York City, a pivotal moment in the fight for 2SLGBTQIA+ rights and equality. Pride is an opportunity to promote inclusion, acceptance, and respect while honoring the ongoing efforts toward equality and human rights for all individuals, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
